Meet Jonathan Compton

Founder & Principal Advisor

Compton Advisory Group was founded on a simple belief: great businesses are built by great leaders, and great leaders are developed through understanding.

Growing up in a low-to-moderate income family, I experienced firsthand what it meant to navigate financial decisions without the benefit of strong financial guidance. That experience shaped the way I view leadership, responsibility, and opportunity. It also sparked a lifelong passion for helping others make informed decisions that improve their futures.

My professional career began in consumer finance before transitioning into recruiting, where I developed an appreciation for the impact that people, leadership, and organizational culture have on business success. In 2015, I entered the banking industry with Bank of America and spent the next decade advising individuals, families, executives, and business owners on increasingly complex financial and strategic decisions. My career later expanded through leadership roles with Wells Fargo and Bank of America Private Bank, where I worked with clients ranging from emerging wealth families to ultra-high-net-worth individuals and privately held business owners.

Throughout those years, one pattern became increasingly clear.

The businesses that created lasting value were rarely those with the smartest owners or the most innovative products. They were the businesses led by owners who had built strong leadership teams, established financial discipline, created accountability, and developed organizations capable of succeeding beyond their direct involvement.

Conversely, many founder-led businesses struggled not because of a lack of opportunity, but because too much depended on one person. The owner remained the company's greatest asset and often its greatest bottleneck. Decisions, relationships, operations, and growth all flowed through a single individual, making it difficult for the business to scale and limiting its long-term value.

Working alongside business owners reinforced another important lesson: many entrepreneurs view the eventual sale of their business as their retirement plan, yet few have intentionally prepared their organizations to maximize enterprise value or successfully transition leadership. I realized there was an opportunity to help owners think differently, not simply about growing revenue, but about building stronger organizations that could thrive well into the future.

Equally important was my passion for education. Throughout my career, I dedicated significant time to teaching financial literacy within my community, believing that understanding, not just information, empowers better decisions. That commitment was recognized through Bank of America's Global Volunteer Award and the national Points of Light Award for helping individuals develop the knowledge and confidence to improve their financial futures.

Those experiences became the foundation for Compton Advisory Group.

I founded the firm to help founder-led businesses become leadership-driven enterprises by providing executive advisory, strategic guidance, and organizational insight rooted in partnership, clarity, and long-term thinking. My role is not simply to provide recommendations. It is to help business owners understand the "why" behind every strategic decision so they can lead with greater confidence, build stronger organizations, and create lasting enterprise value.

At Compton Advisory Group, we believe advisory should go beyond delivering answers. It should create understanding.

Because understanding changes decisions.

Better decisions strengthen organizations.

And stronger organizations create lasting value for owners, employees, families, and the communities they serve.
